Put your phone away
Do you know how to be without your phone, laptop or PC for a few hours? Days? Months? I have to admit that not being able to communicate with the outside world for a few days is hard for me to imagine, mainly because I work online and need to be contactable to do my job. But a few hours? What sweet, blessed relief.
If you take some dowsing rods, hold your phone while the WiFi is on and then hold your phone while the phone is on airplane mode, I can guarantee that the rods will pick up the difference in your energy field. The difference will become even greater when your phone isn't anywhere near you.
We can talk about technology and radio waves, but the reality is, when your phone is on airplane mode and/or nowhere near you, you get to be present in a different way. Your thoughts and feelings are no longer subliminally tuned into the messages you may receive, the notifications you may get, the appreciation from or urgency of others. In other words, those parts of you that seeks validation through either affection, attention or purpose (they need an answer now, this gives me purpose, therefore I must be important) are placed on a back burner and you get to be present to either the person/people in front of you, the task at hand, or your own thoughts and energy. Bliss!
I can feel some of you thinking that it's impossible, but please believe me when I say that it's not.
I'm currently coordinating a team of 12 teachers and around 250 students. I've made it clear to staff that they should look at the lesson plans and content at least a day before they teach so that I have time to answer any questions about or adjust content. I check my emails a few times a day, but it's rare that students have questions that need to be answered immediately and if I'm honest, most students will contact their tutors before they contact me. Because the course is fairly well set up and because it's taught by a team of competent, talented teachers, my job is made easy. That means that I can see ThetaHealing clients and teach ThetaHealing seminars when I'm not teaching in my other job. It means that I can spend time in my garden, decompressing. It means I get to curl up on the sofa with my fur babies. It means that I get to disconnect from potential stress and focus on pleasure.
The thing that I appreciate the most about everything I've just talked about is that there was a time when I thought that I had to do everything right now, and I was burnt out. By an illusion. You are allowed to have free time. You are allowed to enjoy your life.
Give it a try. Start by putting your phone on airplane mode for an hour then go back online, check your messages, missed calls, deal with the things that need to be done. Place it on airplane mode for another hour. You get the drift. When you can leave it on airplane mode for an entire weekend, you know that you're prioritising self-care. It may take a while to reach that stage, but Rome wasn't built in a day and every step helps to create new routines and habits.
